Disco Diva....

TopShop Backstage S/S' 11

A look that is going to be absolutely huge for S/S 11 is disco seventies. I don't mean boho babe which has been seen before but I am talking Disco Diva 70's. Designers have taken inspiration from Studio 54 the club that is so infamous even though it was only open for a few years from '77 to '86. We are talking big hair back combed and almost frizzy, huge square shades, Halston style disco dresses with huge glittering platforms and to finish BIG wide brimmed hat and clutch. Colours are very strong with deep burgundies and jewel colours mixed with pastels and fabrics will be silky or lurex.Makeup has emphasis on dark glossy lips. All over the top, all fabulous. Very decadent.
Here are a few images for your own inspiration.

Caveat Emptor .....

Christmas for me is usually short lived. As a fashion slave, no sooner has my Christmas feast been digested but I have to think of the dreaded 26th. 9am doors open and I prepare to spend the next few days ducking in and out of the thousands of frenzyed shoppers vying for the last 50% off Prada bag! All for the love of fashion I say. While some of you have passed happily through Christmas and haven't even thought about leaving the house yet, there is one type of person thats been very busy the last few days. THE SALE SHOPPER. I think we can honestly divide this girl into two categories.
The clueless: Those who scored loads of gift cards and money for Christmas are out in full force ready to spend. She doesn't care what it is as long as it is on sale. Out of my way!
The focused: This girl eyed up what she wanted before Christmas and is now armed and ready to make that long desired purchase. One that will fit into her perfect capsule wardrobe.

So girls when the musics pumping and the price is just too good to resist bear in mind a few things.....

1. How will this item fit into YOUR wardrobe?
2. Do you really love it or just love the new price tag?
3. Try thinking of things that you actually need to complete your wardrobe instead of just making naughty purchases.

Dublin Taxi Driver Style .....

Yolanda, 25, UK.

Walking through a very busy Grafton Street last Saturday this girl caught my eye across the street. Running along clutching Christmas presents with her two adorable little daughters Yolanda struck me firstly, because of her hair. Sporting a bright red Mohawk looking like a combination of Travis Bickle's from Taxi Driver and Grace Jones. You have to be seriously beautiful and seriously baddass to carry that hairstyle. Secondly, her style which involved lots of piercings, great tights, faux fur gilet, flatties and brilliant blue nail varnish. But what made her stand out the most was her beautiful smile and great personality. Thanks to Peter for the fast action phone photography !

Trending:Pendleton......

While us Irish and British fashionistas have been wrapping up in all things shearling this winter across the Atlantic our New York counterparts have been wrapping up in something else. PENDLETON. An iconic old American company started as a woolen mill in 1889, they use Native American Navajo style prints in warm wool coats and blankets that were traditionally worn by the Native American population and then gradually became popular with white middle America. They have had successful collaborations with Levi's, Opening Ceremonyand Pendleton has been sold in Urban Oufitters too. I would love to have one of their cape coats. But if you daren't wear it as such a statement they have really cool accessories like bags and ear muffs too. A stylish way to keep warm in this cold snap.

Studs ....

Add studs to make any old boring thing cool. You can buy them in bulk on ebay see Here and glue away to your hearts content breathing new punk life into your old favourite jeans, boots, shirt, gloves and even bags. See below for inspiration. Just be careful about the really spikey ones though. I have a great Giles by Mulberry bag that's covered in studs and everytime I travel through Heathrow they stop me to examine it as if it's a weapon! It's only a bag darling don't sweat it.

Black Swan ...

Who could more perfect to play the role of a ballerina but Natalie Portman. The ever beautiful and graceful actress stars in Black Swan which is being released soon on the 3rd December. A dark thriller where Portman plays a perfectionist ballerina who starts to crack as a dancer rival begins to affect her. The costumes were designed by the genius Mulleavy sisters Laura and Kate from Rodarte so it's worth the watch for that alone.

Karl Lagerfeld Pirelli Calender..

Karl Lagerfeld has been the photographer for the the infamous Pirelli calender for 2011. The theme Roman Gods and Godess's see Erin Wasson, Julianne Moore, Elisa Sednaoui, Freja Beha, Anja Rubik, Abbey Lee Kershaw , Heidi Mount, Natasha Poly, Daria Werbowy, Iris Strubegger, Sebastien Jondeau, Garret Neff, and Jake Davis posing in Lagerfeld's personal studio. Shot in tasteful black and white the calender serves in stark contrast to that of Terry Richardson's last year who has a rawer style.

Pringle Prefall '10

Argyle brings to mind golf, Scotland, nerds, grandads and all things uncool. But sometimes the nerdiest things can become the sexiest. Like those black horn rimmed glasses that were en Vogue not so long ago.The argyle pattern is made of diamonds that overlap creating a three dimensional effect. Originating in Scotland it derived from the tartan of Clan Campbell, of Argyll in Scotland. It has been used as a signiture motif for brand Pringle of Scotland in this century. After dying a death the company relaunched itself in 2000 with it's first creative director Clare Waight Keller pushing the brand into the luxury arena making it cool again by designing beautiful cashmere fashion forward pieces. While walking around Soho a few years back absorbing all the visual wonders of the city I remember spotting loads of girls sporting argyle socks pulled up to knee, with ankle / knee high boots over them and of course bare legs with denim shorts or mini dress to finish. Effortless style. I remember thinking it was pretty rad.....

A Pop of Colour .....

I fell in love with the exotic fusion of colour in this collection. It was so new and different at the time. Those netted turbanesque hats were AMAZING....

The Weight Debate ....

Chrystal Renn at her Skinniest

Chrystal Renn is a smouldering hot beauty. Born in Miami Florida in 1986, she was always such a tomboy that her Mum sent her to a modelling school to learn etiquette and posture as a teenager. She was scouted at 14 but was told she would have to loose one third of her body weight to succeed in the industry. Chrystal starved herself to near death exercising for at her own admission 2 hours every day and up to 7 on weekends. Renn realised how miserable she was and how her health was suffering. She dropped out of the fashion world, gained weight and was resigned to the Ford agency as a plus sized model. She wrote a book called "Hungry" detailing her ordeal and struggle with her weight. With her demand soaring she is now even more popular than before recently walking for the Chanel Resort '11 show. Having shifted a little weight and probably being more toned than when she first emerged as a plus size Renn is now causing controversy with some saying that she has succumbed to loosing weight again in order to fit the model profile. Chrystal denys this saying she has naturally lost some weight in the past year and does not monitor her diet. Personally, I think she looks fantastic now. She is still curvy, beautiful and is glowing with health. She has lost some weight but so what? Lets not the build the girl up to tear her down. She has broken boundaries with top designers using her for catwalk and editorial work. She has made it OK to be curvy in fashion and showed that high fashion can look even better on a more natural frame.
